Keeping our readers engaged and up-to-date with what’s happening in the optical community is high on VisionMonday.com’s list of musts. Building upon the increased importance of social media in our industry and active social media following, Vision Monday recently introduced a reader commenting function on all stories that appear on VisionMonday.com. The commenting function, made possible through a Facebook Social Plug-in, allows readers to respond to all content that appears on the site, as well as share the comment on their own Facebook News Feed. As the “community” grows through active interaction, this provides a simple yet dynamic way for readers to tell us what’s on their minds as news develops.

This real time audience engagement allows readers to share thoughts with us as well as their colleagues and VM is committed to getting the conversation started. On that note, here are a few examples of online features we hope will keep those comments coming.

Fifty years of iconic sunglasses worn by legendary characters in blockbuster movies are the stars of a two-and-a-half minute movie montage titled “Supercut: 65 Iconic Movie Sunglasses, 1962-2012.” VM challenges you to strut and share your sunwear/cinema knowledge with us and other readers by going to the Sunwear Tab on VisionMonday.com to see how many sunglasses brands and styles you can identify in these 47 classic movies from the past half century.

On a more serious note, Optometry Giving Sight is calling on all members of the optometric community to join the global movement to eliminate avoidable blindness by taking the 2012 World Sight Day Challenge scheduled to be held on Thursday Oct. 11. Find out how to take part and help in the global fight against avoidable blindness by watching Vision Monday’s Spotlight selection currently on the VM Video Page.
