On Sunday, The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team defeated The Netherlands 2 - 0 to win their second consecutive, and fourth total, Women's World Cup. With this win, The United States has won more Women's World Cups than any other nation. As the USWNT stood on the pitch to take photos with their trophy, one particular chant rung out through the stadium: "Equal pay! Equal pay!"

Earlier this year, all 28 members of the USWNT sued The U.S. Soccer Federation on grounds of gender discrimination. According to CBS, the U.S. Men's National Team stood to make $400 million had they won the Men's World Cup last year, as opposed to the $30 million that the Women's Team stood to make this year. In the past, US Soccer has stated that the USWNT makes less because their games have fewer viewers and bring in less revenue—despite the fact that their own financial reports show the Women's team bringing in more total revenue than the Men's did in the 3 years after the Women's 2015 World Cup win.

The U.S. Soccer Federation and the USWNT agreed to wait to mediate the lawsuit until the World Cup was over. Now, on their way home from France with a trophy in hand, the fight has just begun for the USWNT.
