FLORENCE—Luxottica hosted a launch party on June 17 during Pitti Uomo, a menswear trade fair held biannually here, for “Faces by the Sartorialist,” a new digital hub done in partnership with Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist.

Launched in 2005, The Sartorialist is a fashion blog founded by Schuman in New York. He is often credited with pioneering fashion photography in blog form. Faces by the Sartorialist (www.facesbythesartorialist.com), is a new initiative meant to bring awareness to the optical category. The platform will feature his signature street style imagery of individuals in eyeglasses in key cities all over the globe including New York, Milan, Rio, Paris and Shanghai.

“Eyeglasses are a fascinating accessory. They can both reveal and transform a person,” said Schuman. “I’ve noticed people have become much bolder in their choice of eyewear as a fashion accessory. It’s exciting to have this opportunity to capture the real essence of eyeglasses with Luxottica.”

The event featured a first look into the world of eyewear from the perspective of Shuman. Through his lens, he will continue to capture people’s unique style for the year-long project in regards to their personal choice of eyewear which will be updated on a weekly basis. Visitors will also be able to “Like” or “Share” their favorite photographs on their social media outlets.

The event space held several large prints of the portraits Shuman has already shot for the year-long project. Meant to bring awareness to the optical category, eyewear from Luxottica was prominently on display.
