Carl Zeiss Vision Adds Krauss, Chief Sales Officer, to U.S. Management Team AALEN,

Germany and SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Ulrich Krauss, the chief sales officer for Carl Zeiss Vision and a member of the company’s management board, has relocated to the company’s U.S. headquarters in San Diego. He will work with Joseph Donahoe, president-North America, and Zeiss’s U.S. leadership team in implementing key market initiatives and supporting U.S. linkage to Zeiss’s global organization, according to Zeiss. “The United States is our largest and most important market,” said Krauss. “We continue to see attractive business opportunities in the U.S. market and we have laid the groundwork for ambitious growth plans by further modernizing our production capabilities, taking full advantage of the Zeiss brand, and by continuously introducing innovations to the market.” Donahoe remarked, “The power of the Zeiss brand, our distribution network, our global and local manufacturing are working to our advantage in a challenging market environment. This means we can deliver an even better customer experience.” Krauss joined Zeiss in 1993 and has held numerous management positions in the field of Zeiss Medical Systems in the U.S. and Germany. He was appointed to the management board of Carl Zeiss Meditec in 2002 and played a key role in the expansion of the company’s global presence and in its successful international growth. Since 2011 he has been working at Carl Zeiss Vision International as a member of the board and chief sales officer.

 
Davis Vision Names Geringer SVP for Exchanges, National Accounts and Network Development

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Managed vision care company, Davis Vision has named Donna Geringer senior vice president, exchanges, national accounts and network development. Davis Vision made the addition to increase its focus on the changing dynamics of health care, including the sales distribution landscape of public and private exchanges, according to the company. Geringer joins Davis Vision with over 25 years of national account sales, client management and network development managed care experience. Most recently, she led the business development and account management for commercial markets to include health plans, Medicaid and Medicare insurers and national account plan sponsors for Kepro, a customized care management company. She started her career with HealthLink, a WellPoint company, in St. Louis, and she subsequently held leadership positions as vice president of sales for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and head of sales with Aetna and Ingenix. The Cooper Companies Appoints McBride Chief Operating Officer

PLEASANTON, Calif.—The Cooper Companies, Inc. announced the appointment of Daniel G. McBride to executive vice president, chief operating officer and general counsel, effective Nov. 1 . McBride most recently served as vice president, general counsel and chief risk officer and has held positions of increasing responsibility within the legal organization focusing on operations, business development and long-term growth. Prior to joining Cooper in February 2005, McBride was an attorney with Latham & Watkins LLP concentrating on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance.


 
Mittelman, OD, MPH, FAAO Inducted as Sixth President of PCO’s Salus University

PARK, Pa.—Michael H. Mittelman, OD, MPH, FAAO was inducted recently as the sixth president of Salus University, established by the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Prior to his appointment by the Salus University board of trustees, Mittelman was deputy Surgeon General of the Navy and had achieved the rank of Rear Admiral (Upper Half). A statement from the school noted, “Dr. Mittelman brings a remarkably unique global perspective to Salus University, American professional medical education, and the rapidly changing landscape of research and health care delivery.” The statement continued, “Beginning as a Navy optometrist following his 1980 graduation from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Mittelman served with distinction for more than three decades in the U.S. Navy in a succession of increasingly responsible, mission-critical command positions. His exemplary career included posts around the world—covering land, sea and air responsibilities—as he became one of the most influential medical professionals to serve in the American military.” Among Mittelman’s accomplishments, he was the first Navy aerospace optometrist, the first optometrist to command a major naval hospital (Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan), the first and only clinician to lead the Navy Medical Service Corps., the first non-medical doctor to serve as a combatant command surgeon in the U.S. Pacific Command, and the first non-medical doctor to serve as the command surgeon for the U.S. Joint Forces Command and Allied Command Transformation (NATO). In addition to being a highly decorated naval officer, Mittelman has been recognized by his medical peers. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) as well as a Diplomate in the FAAO Section in Public Health and Environmental Vision.

 
Optos Names Kennedy Chief Financial Officer

LONDON—Medical retinal imaging company, Optos plc has appointed Rob Kennedy, currently interim CFO, to the position of CFO, effective immediately. Prior to assuming the interim CFO role, Kennedy had served as group director of finance and company secretary since joining Optos in August 2011. He joined Optos from the University of Dundee where he had been the director of finance since 2007. Prior to that, he held a number of senior finance roles.
