PEOPLE: Management Services Held for Margaret Furman, 61, Co-Founder and VP of Magic Design By Staff Monday, July 18, 2011 12:00 AM Margaret FurmanSAN FRANCISCO—Margaret Furman, co-founder and vice president of marketing for Magic Design/Visual Dynamics Inc., passed away here on June 11 following a lengthy illness. Furman was 61 years old. Magic Design, one of the industry’s long-time retail dispensary display/design companies, was started by Furman and her husband Cy in the early ‘80s. Starting in 1983, the Furmans turned their attention to the optical industry and began to specialize in the design and merchandising business for retail dispensaries. Margaret Furman was a driving force behind the company’s growth which today offers retailers a “total package” design with client services ranging from lighting to flooring and furniture selections, according to Cy Furman. “As the company’s chief interior designer, it was Margaret’s hands on help that contributed to Magic Design’s expansion,” he said. Furman, a life-long resident of San Francisco, graduated from City College of San Francisco with a degree in Industrial Design. On a personal note, she founded the Flying Angels Chinese Dance Company in the early 90’s. The organization did a lot of community events and its goal was to teach kids to love dance but at the same time, to be good people. She is survived by her husband Cy Furman, daughter Kim Toriumi and a granddaughter. ■
