SALT LAKE CITY, Utah— Reverse Engineering, a technology company based in Lisbon, Portugal, has formed a division called ReverseOptics LLC and has established a new U.S. office here to serve the eyecare and eyewear business.

ReverseOptics, whose expertise is in 3D scanning, augmented reality and 3D modeling technology, will work with eyecare companies, optical retail, e-commerce and optical firms to provide innovative 3D virtual digital solutions, an announcement said. ReverseOptics’ digital electronic tools include 3D virtual mirrors and try-on applications, online optical measurement tools, 3D visual presentation of eyeglass frames and more.

The company has partnered with Bob Main of Web Vision Centers Group LLC to help manage their relationships with eyecare optical companies and to help better understand the digital needs of the U.S. eyecare industry. Main told VMail, “The new division is already working with several global eyecare optical companies. We also plan to be at Vision Expo West to meet with eyecare optical companies to introduce Reverse and their technology capabilities and to demonstrate several currently patent pending applications called EyeglassMirror and PDMirror and others which can be customized to their needs.”

Reverse Engineering got its start in 2000 by developing its own proprietary technology called the dPlus System, an optic three-dimensional scanning system. Reverse Engineering’s technology is currently being used globally in assembly line quality control systems for dimensional or color based control, tools for deformation analysis, digitization systems for the shoe sole industry (mold alignment, reverse engineering), digitization systems for medical and biometrical applications, digitization services and user friendly systems for 3D multimedia.

Reverse's multi-disciplinary team includes PhD's and other digital experts with know-how in such important areas as 3D image processing/algorithms, software, hardware and electro-optics. Cesar Silva, Reverse’s CEO and founder, said “We became aware of the digital needs of the eyecare industry and realized that our background, technology, and expertise is the perfect match to develop 3D virtual mirrors, online optical measurement applications and 3D eyeglass frame presentation methods. Our expertise in augmented reality and 3D scanning has already provided valuable technology to several global eyecare optical companies and we are looking forward to delivering innovative digital solutions for other eyecare optical companies.”
