NEW YORK—April Jasper, OD, FAAO, and Katie Gilbert-Spear, OD, MPH, have been named professional co-editors of the newly relaunched Women In Optometry (WO), a quarterly supplement to Review of Optometry. The addition of their guiding voices to WO is part of an overall plan to increase the presence of the publication at a time when women are increasingly prominent in the optometric field.  WO has also launched a new website with enhanced resources to inspire, educate and inform women ODs.

"As women ODs, we understand the challenges and joys that other women face at home, at work and in the community—and we also know how rewarding a career in optometry can be for women," Dr. Jasper said. "We look forward to being part of the growing voice of women in optometry,” Dr. Gilbert-Spear adds. “This is a time of great change for our profession, and a time of great opportunity for women, in particular."

WO will increase its web presence in 2014, with a digital edition of the magazine and regular updates on a dedicated space on the Review of Optometry website, to be unveiled in March. Beginning in 2014, WO will host two live annual events, scheduled to coincide with national meetings of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.
