FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J.—Insights into the Sunshine Act, a session to be addressed by three industry experts from Alcon, Vistakon and the Contact Lens Institute, will be the topic of the Wed. Oct. 30 edition of “The Power Hour,” the weekly online radio talk show hosted by Gary Gerber, OD, founder of The Power Practice.

Said Gerber, “How much influence do manufacturers of optometry related products and services have on your prescribing habits? If a sales rep leaves behind a pen or post-it notes on Monday, and for whatever reason, you start prescribing more of their drug on Tuesday, are you in violation of this new regulation? Are you required to keep track of how much the lunch with your contact lens rep costs and if you don’t, is there a penalty? What if you have lunch at a buffet at your state meeting and during that meeting, you walk through an exhibit hall and pick up a pen. Is that a problem?

The Sunshine Act will be addressed by three industry experts from Alcon,Vistakon and the Contact Lens Institute. Even if you do something as seemingly benign as attend an industry sponsored CE event, you should listen to this show to learn about this important new law.”

“The Power Hour” radio shows are sponsored by Essilor of America, VSP Global, Optovue and Think About Your Eyes. The show, which can be heard online or by phone every Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. E.T., is a live discussion vehicle for current practice-building events in optometry, political viewpoints and clinical topics.
