HONG KONG – Mondottica Group has announced that it has signed an eyewear license agreement with Marimekko.

The agreement is worldwide, except Japan and Korea, the company said, adding that, including renewal periods, the license can run for 10 years. The first optical and sunglass collections for women and children are expected to reach the market in early 2015.

Group chairman Michael Jardine said, “Mondottica is over the moon about this association with Marimekko. We have reached out to them for many years and to finally have concluded this agreement is a matter of great honor for us. Anyone who knows us knows we do not go for the biggest brands; we go for wonderful, and Marimekko is possibly one of the best examples of wonderful that we know.”

Founded in 1951, Marimekko is an iconic Finnish design house in the world of fashion and design with its unique point of view “bringing joy to people’s everyday lives through its bold colors and patterns and the art of print making, which come to life in the form of interior decoration items ranging from furnishing fabrics to tableware as well as clothing, bags and other accessories.” Today, there are 120 Marimekko stores around the world with the company’s key market areas being Northern Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific region.

In other news, Mondottica also announced that it has signed a license with Joules. The agreement is potentially global, Jardine said, but it will begin with the United Kingdom and Ireland. The initial license is for three years and is renewable. The first optical and sunglass collections for women and children will be launched in early 2014, exclusively through the Vision Express chain as well as selected independent optical retailers.

Jardine added, “Mondottica is very pleased to be associated with Tom Joules and his incredible company. We have an unequalled portfolio of British brands possessing great character and integrity and we have no doubt that Joules is a perfect complement to the Mondottica family. We look forward to a long and happy association.”

For nearly three decades Joules have been devoted to crafting the highest quality clothing designed to capture the true essence of the British countryside. The company operates more than 70 colorful Joules stores in the UK, as well serving an extensive network of multi-brand retailers throughout the world.

Also in the fall of 2014, Mondottica is planning the launch of Yohji Yamamoto.

Based here, Mondottica Group’s portfolio also includes Hackett, Christian Lacroix, Cacharel, Joules and Yohji Yamamoto worldwide, Ted Baker and Lulu Guinness worldwide except the U.S. and Canada, Anna Sui worldwide except Japan, Marimekko worldwide except Japan and Korea and Pepe Jeans London worldwide except Spain. It also has previously announced distribution joint ventures in the European Community with REM Eyewear and Adlens.
