NORWALK, Conn.— Peter Valenti, III , past president of Bausch + Lomb, North America, Vision Care, has been appointed to the IDOC board of directors. In this role, Valenti's national perspective and experience will provide invaluable guidance to IDOC as the health care industry continues its evolution with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), according to a statement from IDOC.

"We are thrilled to have someone of Pete's caliber and vast knowledge of the industry to help IDOC navigate the challenges facing the optometric community today," said Mark Feder, OD, CEO of IDOC.

Valenti joins IDOC on its mission to help its members continue to be successful and also focus on the patients they serve. "There is no doubt that the transformation of health care in the U.S. is not done," Valenti said, adding that he has already seen many great steps taken by optometric leaders who have fought for the profession. "One of our biggest goals is not only helping IDOC grow, but helping its doctors navigate this new world of health care with the ACA to ensure that optometry and its patients are at the forefront of the future of health care."

Valenti brings more than two decades of experience in several health care industries to the IDOC board. He has collaborated with both doctors and patients over the years, as past president of Bausch + Lomb, a position he held until 2013, and also at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care as vice president, Global Strategy, and vice president, U.S. marketing.
