Gubler receives a plaque and the $1,000 scholarship based on an essay detailing how social media can be used in an optometric practice to improve patient care and outcomes. The award honors Yamamoto’s lifelong history of giving back to the community and to the profession of optometry. A member of the inaugural class of AZOPT graduating this year, Gubler went to Ensenada, Mexico, with his classmates as a first-year optometry student to provide eyecare to the local population. He also became involved in mission trips when he served on an evangelical mission to Hamburg, Germany, for his church. He plans on being active in his community and continuing his service internationally.
