The ECP confidence rating toward overall optical retail business for the upcoming 6 months remained steady with the May 2013 rating at 3.82. This outlook compares to a 3.78 rating in June 2012, a 3.72 rating in June 2011 and a 3.48 rating in June 2010, showing a consistent increase in ECPs’ confidence over the past three years. The OBB is further compared to findings from the Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Survey, the latest of which revealed an increase in the Consumer Confidence Index from a revised 74.3 rating for May to an 81.4 rating for June. The OBB is a monthly survey designed to gauge the optical business by studying a representative sample of independent optical retailers (single locations or groups of no more than three locations) and measuring the trends of eyecare professionals at these locations. It is conducted online by Jobson Optical Research and is based on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is "very negative," 3 is “neutral” and 5 is "very positive."
