BUSINESS: Labs Mei Opens Facility in Brazil By Andrew Karp Monday, November 17, 2014 12:00 AM Mei chief Stefano Sonzogni demonstrates the company’s EZFit edger at a recent trade show. SAO PAULO, Brazil—Mei, the Italian manufacturer of milling equipment for optical labs, has opened a facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil to better serve customers in South and Central America. The facility, the company’s first in South America, houses a sales office, warehouse and demonstration area. Mei will sell its full line of lens processing equipment at the Sao Paulo facility, including the MonoSpheraRX-DD and Bisphera-XDD edgers, which use a milling process rather than a grinding one, allowing customers to cut complex shapes. Mei’s newest edger, MEI641, has manual loading capabilities, which significantly reduces the cost of operation. akarp@jobson.com
