Luxury Optical Holdings opened its 12th
Morgenthal Frederics location at CityCenterDC.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—With the opening of a new location at the upscale retail hub known as CityCenterDC, Luxury Optical Holdings (LOH) added its 12th Morgenthal Frederics high-end optical shop to its 61-store portfolio of luxury brands.

Launched with a grand opening celebration last week on Wed. Aug. 5, 2015, the 1,300-square-foot high-end optical shop in the upscale retail center carries Lunor, Cartier, Chrome Hearts, Mykita and Maybach in addition to Morgenthal Frederics frames. Starting at $365, price points range to over $2,000 for buffalo horn and solid gold frames.

Among the architectural elements of the new location, an “optical bar” serves as a focal point that helps define the space. “The Optical Bar is one of our iconic elements and provides us with a unique ability to display some of our collection,” LOH’s president Glenn Reisch told dba. “The client is able to sit at the bar, view the collection and be fitted with frames by our opticians.” (For a more in-depth dba interview with Reisch, see “Expanding on a Solid Foundation of Luxury.”)

“We are able to create a unique experience for our clients. We showcase our one-of-a-kind horn pieces at the bar,” added Reisch, referring to the company’s trademark buffalo horn frames handcrafted in Germany from multiple layers of Asian water buffalo horn.

After the grand opening celebration, the store launched with a three-day trunk show that offered shoppers a chance to meet Morgenthal Frederics’ chief designer Jeff Press. A portion of the proceeds from the trunk show has been committed to Active Minds, a nonprofit educational organization to foster lifelong learning.

The high-end optical shop launched with a grand opening celebration on Aug. 5, 2015.

Today, Morgenthal Frederics operates 12 locations in high-end retail environments throughout the country, and the brand is part of the LOH family that also includes Optica, Robert Marc Eyewear (acquired Sept. 12, 2014), Davante, Leonard Opticians (acquired Sept. 16, 2013), and other luxury eyewear lines.

The company is expected to continue its growth trajectory. “We continue to aggressively look for opportunities for additional acquisitions and openings that make sense for LOH and hope to have more exciting news in the near future,” Press told dba when asked about any future planned openings or acquisitions.

Cartier and Maybach are among the luxury brands on display, along with lines from
Lunor, Chrome Hearts, Mykita and Morgenthal Frederics.

LOH is owned by the investment firms of aPriori Capital Partners and Goode Partners, LLC. It ranked 17th among Vision Monday’s Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers.
