A VOSH Illinois team comprised of 18 volunteers traveled to Barranquilla and Sabanagrande, Colombia this past fall for a mission organized by VOSH International volunteer Natalie Venezia. The VOSH team was supporte d by a generous donation from L’Amy America of frames and sunglasses, organized by Alex Rotundo and Sue Wyatt.

The mission’s team included four ODs, five OD students from UMSL, and nine lay volunteers. The ODs were Drs. Michael Ciszek, Sarika Mehta, Jim Purvis and James Vaught. The mission was hosted by Colombian philanthropist Marina Diaz, Governor Eduardo Verano, with particular help from the Governor’s assistant Rodolfo Zambrano, and host optometrist Freddy Garcia. The team treated approximately 1,760 patients during the four-day clinic.

The VOSH Illinois team will be going on another eye clinic mission to Concepción, Bolivia in February, again supported by product donations from L’Amy America.
