RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.— Superior Vision, the managed vision care benefits company based here, has appointed Greg Pontius as chief information officer (CIO). In this newly-created position, the company said Pontius will be responsible for managing the information technology department, leading the company’s efforts in the areas of system design and development, technology hardware management, telecommunications, security and compliance.

“This is a time of growth and expansion for Superior Vision, and Greg will be integral in helping guide us with new systems development,” said Kirk Rothrock, Superior Vision’s president. “He understands the critical role information technology plays in supporting a growing company in a complex environment, and his expertise will be instrumental as we implement new products and programs while adapting to an industry that is increasingly consumer focused.”

Pontius brings a demonstrated track record of success and strategic thinking to Superior Vision. He has more than 25 years of information technology experience in the health care industry, most recently as the senior vice president, business quality administrator, for HealthSpring, a Cigna Corporation. Other positions include CIO at Bravo Health and UnitedHealth Group.

Pontius holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Business Administration, Finance, from Michigan State University.
