ROCHESTER, N.Y.— Bausch + Lomb has announced the appointment of Colonel Donald Gagliano, MD as vice president, global development operations. Dr. Gagliano will be responsible for leading the scientific review of global business development opportunities and strategic initiatives for Bausch + Lomb’s pharmaceuticals business, and will support special projects in its surgical business.

Gagliano is a retinal ophthalmologist, fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and former executive director, Department of Defense (DoD)/Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Vision Center of Excellence (VCE) in Bethesda, Md., a center recently recognized with the Foundation for Fighting Blindness 2013 Innovators Award. As executive director, Gagliano established the center throughout the DoD and VA continuum as a leader in the prevention, clinical care, research, education, advocacy and information management for military eye injuries and diseases and vision disorders with traumatic brain injury.

“Dr. Gagliano brings to Bausch + Lomb a long record of distinctive accomplishment in the global eye health community,” said Dan Wechsler, executive vice president and president, Bausch + Lomb Global Pharmaceuticals. “He will play a leading role as we continue to develop and deliver innovative solutions to physicians and their patients in markets around the world.”

Prior to his new position at Bausch + Lomb, Gagliano had a military career for over 30 years.
