Carl Zeiss Vision Names Joe Wende, OD, as Vice President, Managed Care

SAN DIEGO— Carl Zeiss Vision has appointed Joe Wende, OD to the newly created position of vice president, managed care.

A graduate of State University of New York College of Optometry, Dr. Wende practiced both in independent and retail-affiliated settings before joining Davis Vision. There he served for over 15 years as the vice president of professional affairs and quality management. In this role, he led Davis Vision to be the first vision care plan to be accredited as a PPO by The Joint Commission, and certified in credentialing by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Dr. Wende is the founder and former chairperson of Davis Vision/Empire Vision Optometric Quality Assurance Committee, comprised of employed and affiliated optometrists and location managers within Davis Vision’s Proprietary Vision Centers and senior management of Empire Vision. From 2009 to 2011, he was the first vice president of the National Association of Vision Care Plans.
