Essilor Vision Foundation Honors Gentex Optics’ Frieder at June 20 Golf Classic

GLEN COVE,N.Y.—Essilor Vision Foundation honored long-time optical industry executive L. Peter Frieder of Gentex Corp. at its 2011 Golf Classic, the Liberty Mutual Invitational, held at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y. on June 20. Over 80 players enjoyed a perfect summer day playing for a great cause—raising over $15,000 to help provide vision care for kids in New York.

Essilor of America and Transitions were the major sponsors for the charity golf event, which helps raise funds for the Foundation’s work. Essilor Vision Foundation is a public non-profit 501(c)3 charity whose mission is to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences by helping those in need. It provides screenings, eye exams and other vision resources to children who cannot afford them otherwise. Its projects include the Adopt-A-School program and Kids Vision for Life.

Evening festivities included a cocktail and dinner reception for over 100 attendees along with a silent auction and raffle prizes. Essilor senior brand consultants Mary Lou Maguire and Arlene Murphy sold over $6,000 in raffle tickets.

The past three honoress, Ed Greene, Mike Daley and Paul Berman joined this year’s honoree Peter Frieder. Also in attendance was Al Brandel, past president of the Lions International Club.
