Bold Face: The Avengers

May 18, 2012 3:00 PM

Bold Face explores the cult of celebrity and the styles, trends and brands that stars show off in movies, at events and living their daily lives. To be considered for inclusion please contact senior editor, Deirdre Carroll.

Marvel’s The Avengers has broken opening weekend records and has already earned more than $1 billion worldwide. In this Bold Face, we showcase three of the handsome men (and their eyewear) who are tasked with saving the planet in the movie…

Robert Downey Jr. signed a four-picture deal with Marvel Studios and had already starred in two wildly popular Iron Man movies before reprising the role of Tony Stark in The Avengers. A smart move too, considering it is rumored that Downey’s lucrative contract provides for a healthy share of the profit from the hugely successful films. Stark, a self-described genius, billionaire and playboy, designed the mechanical suit of armor that allows him to be Iron Man. Downey himself has his own ‘suit of armor’ so to speak, his red carpet ensembles are usually a riff on a well-tailored suit, fashionable sneakers and a pair of stylish specs. In this case, the specs in question are the Bernardo from Oliver Peoples

Mark Ruffalo stars as Dr. Bruce Banner, the genius scientist who has been exposed to gamma radiation and as a result transforms in to the large, green Hulk when excited or enraged in Marvel’s The Avengers. Ruffalo replaced Ed Norton who played the Hulk in the 2008 movie and his agreement has him secured to reprise the role for future movies. A Hulk television show is also currently in development on ABC. There is no word on whether Ruffalo will also be seen as the Hulk on the small screen, but he can be seen right here in the Lacoste L103S sunglasses from Marchon

Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, the Norse god of thunder (and Bold Face’s personal favorite), in The Avengers. Also cast as part of a multiple movie deal, Hemsworth previously played the character in 2011’s Thor, where his character is exiled to Earth from his homeland of Asgard and ultimately must stop his brother Loki from taking Asgard over. In The Avengers, Loki (reprised by Tom Hiddleston) returns to menace Earth, and thus Thor, along with the Avengers, must once again thwart him. Hemsworth has been a very busy man, in addition to starring in possibly one of the highest grossing films of all time; he also stars in Snow White and the Huntsman out on June 1 and just welcomed his first child, a daughter, with his wife, actress Elsa Pataky. Here he is arriving at London’s Heathrow Airport in February wearing the John Varvatos V757 shades from Base Curve.
